Guidelines for Recreational Activities at Wooglemai

The three major recreational activities conducted at Wooglemai EEC are subject to a number of conditions that ensure the safety of all participants and increase their general enjoyment of the activity.

These conditions have been developed by Wooglemai staff in conjunction with the NSW DET document "Guidelines for the safe conduct of sport and physical activity in schools. NSW DET 1999". This document is available in all schools.

Cost

All recreational activities are priced at $5 per student. Kayaking is $10 per student.

Age appropriateness

We will only accept Primary School students (Year 3 and older) or High School students to participate in these activities. Kayaking is negotiated with Wooglemai staff on a case by case basis and is currently offered to students in Year 5 and above.

This age requirement has been determined by Wooglemai staff based on the physical demands (strength, endurance, etc) placed on participants during the course of the above activities.

Duration/time length of activities

The minimum times required to complete each activity are listed below. Longer sessions obviously provide greater opportunity for participant success, particularly of any less able students. Each activity must be preceded by a period of instruction and a practical demonstration of correct procedure in order to satisfy the requirements of the Guidelines for the safe conduct of sport and physical activity in schools.

Ropes Course:

  • 30 minutes instruction/demonstration + 30 minutes travel time + 2 and a half hours activity
  • Allow a minimum of three hours

Archery:

  • 30 minutes instruction/demonstration + 90 minutes activity
  • Allow a minimum of two hours

Kayaking:

  • 30 minutes instruction/demonstration + 60 minutes loading/travel + 2 hours activity
  • Allow a minimum of three and a half hours

When booking please bear in mind the arrival and departure times of your group as well as allowing time for both students and teachers (including Wooglemai staff) to eat and use toilet facilities.

Combining activities involves some extra transition times in moving to and setting up new activities.
